The most characteristic features in this channel are the sharp rear cloud edge and the black stripe of dry air. The bright area over North sea, Denmark and the south of Sweden indicate the area of high humidity content where precipitation was reported. Dark region behind it is already indication of dry air coming from the upper level.
The situation similar like a 3 hours before. Attention should be focused on the dark stripe from Island to south Sweden which indicates the jet streak fast moving to the south-east.
The dark stripe coming from the north-west shows the location of the jet axis. The bright (high water vapour content) area over Poland and north-east Germany is a sign of stronger, probably convective, development there.
The intensification of the cloud band goes on which can also be seen on the IR images, but the dark stripe is much better seen in the WV channel.
Above the dark stripe there is a grey area with lower cloudiness and some small structure (over Latvia). The intensification of the cloudiness over Germany, Poland and Czech Republic goes on. Notice how the dark stripe makes a curve. At this point one part of the intensified cloud bulge seems to start separating from the rest.
There is a sharp edge of the black stripe deeper over continent (over Poland). There is also the area where high wind speed values can be found lower in the atmosphere (wind field at 500 hPa).
The bright white area over Middle Europe indicates further convective development. At this point Jet crosses the frontal cloud band almost perpendicularly. The separation of part of the cloud bulge is even better seen here.
The dark area over Poland indicate the intrusion of dry startospheric air, some water vapour vortices were formed, and these structures are often a sign for a PV anomaly. The dark stripe indicating jet axes is not so pronounced in this image. However, the two parts of the cloud bulge at the area of the intensification are clearly seen.
The new intensification of cloudiness and precipitation over Austria and Slovenia can be seen like a bright white area.
At this point attention should be focused on a small round dark area north of the intensified clouds. As mentioned before, the intrusion of dry upper levels air is usually an indication for the beginning of cyclogenesis process.
The Comma cloud feature starts to form over Hungary.
The small comma cloud structure is still over Hungary, and the brighter area of the frontal zone is over Croatia and Bosnia and Hercegovina.
The dark area over Austria, Slovenia and Croatia indicate the cold and dry air (cold advection) behind the frontal zone. The small comma cloud structure can still be seen over Hungary.
The cold advection becomes stronger which can be seen like a larger dark region over Croatia and the Adriatic sea than 3 houres before.
The system is moving far to the south-east whit still a huge content of humidity and percitipation.
Again a small comma structure has formed over the southern Adriatic with dark stripe over Hungary, Croatia and Bosnia and Hercegovina.
The system is moving further to the south-east and weaking. The small comma structure over south Italy still can be seen.
