The old cyclone has dissipated and the cloud remnants merged with the new developing system. The cross-section is laid through this new cyclone. The shape of the isentropes indicates that the occlusion is already forming.

Potential Vorticity

Potential vorticity field again shows a positive anomaly in the upper levels and rather high positive PV values near the ground, but the anomaly is not as pronounced as it was when the first cyclone was developing.

Vorticity Advection

Change towards higher PVA values with height contribute to upward motion which corresponds to the highest grey shades in the satellite images. Negative vorticity advection behind it is connected with sinking, which is also indicated by rather low grey shades, especially in the IR image (thin orange line).

Temperature advection

Similar to the first cyclone, this newly developed one clearly shows a distribution of the temperature advection typical for the cyclone. There is warm advection within the cloud band and cold behind and beneath it.
