Cloud band of the cyclone is here much better developed. In the cross-section the isentropes have the shape typical for an occlusion.

Potential Vorticity

Positive potential vorticity anomaly is found behind the cloud band of the cyclone. The value 1 of PV indicates that the stratospheric air is protruding down to 550 hPa, but rather high values go very low towards the ground indicating conditions that favour cyclonic development.

Vorticity Advection

Vorticity advection is not very pronounced along this cross-section. There is, however, some positive vorticity advection in the upper levels in the region near the cloud band.

Temperature advection

Temperature advection shows very typical distribution. There is warm advection within the cloud head in the upper levels and cold advection behind and beneath it. This distribution of temperature advection strengthens the cyclonic circulation.
